Retractable Bollards provide a safe and attractive barrier to prevent unauthorized vehicular access into restricted areas on a government, commercial or private property. With a standard diameter of 11", these steel posts create an above ground obstacle, limiting vehicular access while allowing pedestrian and bicycle access.
Bollards can be lowered when passage is authorized, by any type of access control device (RFID, cardkey, remote control, etc.), or at any time in case of an emergency. When in the lowered position, the top of each bollard is flush with the pavement or asphalt, and completely hidden.
Bollards can be supplied with manual, electric or pneumatic controls and in a variety of heights and strengths. For example, a basic unit is designed to provide dissuasive perimeter control and will shear off on an impact of up to 3000N, thereby limiting damage to the vehicle and the Bollard mechanism. At the high-end, Bollards are constructed to completely stop most vehicles; a “Defense” Bollard can withstand up to 300,000N and continue to operate (i.e. a truck traveling at high speed). Retractable Electrical Bollards can be raised (or lowered in 3-5 seconds), which means it is in the appropriate position quickly.
Although most bollards are designed with numerous external safety systems (i.e. ground loops, photo beams), electric bollards also are unique because they have internal safety capabilities through amperance regulation. Bollards can operate in the most severe conditions (temperature variations and precipitation). However, all bollard cases must be properly drained.
These features, along with a very high MCBF (1 million operations; for electrical bollards) ratings, make Bollards an excellent choice for vehicle access control, satisfying requirements of both form and function.
